Welcome to The Furniture Shop. I make furniture and accessories but, as you will no doubt notice, I am not a web designer.

I operate a one-man custom furniture shop in Reva, Virginia, about 1 1/2 hours southwest of Washington, DC and about 45 minutes north of Charlottesville, Virginia. I make furniture to order for clients and spend a lot of time working out the details. I communicate frequently with my clients and, if they wish, I sent photos of work in progress. I do not make kitchen cabinets or chairs.

I do not have a showroom because I simply do not have the space, but I do have many pieces here that are examples of my work. I have added some amateur photos in the Photo Galleries. I will add new and improved photos and projects as they are available.

Commercial furniture is fine, but sometimes you just can't find what you want, need, or the sizes available are wrong. As you will notice, I make a lot of different "stuff," so if you need something that you can't find anyplace else I am happy to discuss your project. You can also work with me through your interior designer or your architect.

Thanks for looking, and if you would like a quote or more information, please email me.

John Eakins

Under the patronage of St. Joseph, woodworker.

Some of the things I do and the charactaristics of the funiture I make:

Dovetails are all hand-cut; I do not own a dovetail jig. Tabletops are glued up using biscuits, not dowels, and will never fail. Tops can be handplaned to add to the 'handmade' look.

I use mortise and tenon joinery and peg the tenons at key points for strength

Finishes on all primary surfaces are hand-rubbed. I never try to hide, fill or repairl natural defects such as small knots or worm holes in the wood, but I do select wood that is mostly without flaws.

There is an old woodworker's question: "Do you want your wood to look like wood, or brown plastic?" I like wood to look like wood, and so do my clients who value the beauty of solid wood.
